ABOUT THE FILMMAKER

Key Soto is a filmmaker and rapper from the Bronx. He has been writing rhymes since the age of 13 and was influenced by hip hop of the 90’s. During Key’s early adult years, he became entrenched in filmmaking, writing multiple screenplays and directing several projects. It was during these film years that inspiration struck, particularly after watching the South African documentary, Amandla. Through this story, Key witnessed South African musicians and activists singing songs to counteract the injustices and racism of Apartheid. It was then that he realized, he had to return to rapping, he had to return to hip hop, and Key recalibrated himself onto his current path– one that connects critical, biting lyrics, with stylish and insightful filmmaking.
